There has been one listed on Ebay recently here in the USA in great condition along with a case for $3,500.00 USD which I would think is a fair price considering it's rarity.

well that CAR E-XII went for
EUR 2,750.00 (Approximately AU $3,602.48)
(for the archives).

Currently there are 2 sunbursts for US$3k3 (with original case) and $3k9 (period case but not original) which seems a bit overpriced (I've seen '65 and '66 sunbursts go for under $2k5 and my totally refinished and non-collectable '66 - $800)

I saw an '66 EXII parted out last week. such a shame. I think the only thing that wasn't on the original instrument was the 12 string bridge. I bought the p'ups. Someone grabbed the neck for $600. I hope it's going to get used as a replacement, not to be butchered into a Frankenstein guitar.

But that CAR EXII ... sigh ...

God, I remember turning a couple of those down twenty years ago for peanuts, I'd played a friend's and it was a menace to keep in tune.

Then again, I didn't buy the $400 Bass VIs either.

I knew nothing.

"I knew nothing"

maybe I, as the owner of a BassVI, E-XII and a Coronado XII, will come to realise eventually that maybe - just maybe - you were the wise one...

... but until that day when I learn that lesson, I'll enjoy them for what they are, bad ideas and painful tuning not withstanding.

I still want a Bass VI, but I'm just not willing to pay what they're asking even for the Japanese RIs.

Maybe they'll do MIM at some point.

Or I can find one as hideous as my yellow Mustang for cheap.

I wouldn't count on it. The market/interest just isn't there, no one of profile is using them, the schecter hellcat vi exists, and the Fender Custom shop churn out a batch of a dozen or so every so often.

I really, REALLY wish Fender would do MIM versions of the Electric XII, the Bass VI and the Coronado. Iconic, to say the least.

I own one of each so this is my 2c

Bass VI: the MIJ's were interesting but didn't set the house on fire
E-XII: there's the MIJ Strat XII if you're after a solid body 12
Coronado: they're iconic guitars but, as a Coro XII owner, I fully understand why they didn't sell and probably won't again.

With the exception of Gibson Flying V's and Explorers, sometimes vintage instruments withered on the vine simply because they ... weren't in the same league (as far as idea execution) as their contemporaries, or the usability just wasn't there. It's not every gig you need a Bass VI...
