Waiting to see retail and reviews.
And trying to figure out where it fits in the overall scheme of things with the Blacktops etc.

It's a signature and a Classic Vibe of some sort, but I doubt it'll hit the price point of the Blacktops. Even if it did, though, I'd be tempted by the Squier due to the apparently normal pickups and switching scheme.

I'll see what it does to the Blacktop used market; that may be the option I have to go with and just wire it up properly (or leave it as is if it sounds good, like I did with my CP HH Jag).

shouldn't the bridge rock on thimbles because of the tremolo?

It looks like a TOM, but the specs note a "floating bridge" (NOT floating "tremolo"), which indicates a rocking bridge. It's clearly an unconventional JM bridge, though, so it's a mystery as to whether the specs are right or not.

Think his other sig model had a TOM on it too.
I'd expect TOM at the pricepoint.

I looked again and admit that I was wrong about the floating bridge. It's an "Adjust-o-matic" or TOM.

Saw $379 listed as minimum advertised price on a couple forums yesterday, seems credible.

Same price I paid for my Squier J5 tele.
If the quality is comparable, it'll be a very nice guitar.
This could be a nice back-up to my Thin Skin Jazzmaster - same color scheme, anyway.
Or a solid platform for experimenting with the after-market JM pickups that are out there (IF the stock pups actually need replacing).

T.B. - it's the new Squier J. Mascis signature Jazzmaster.

Dammit, looks like I'm going to have to have this one; wanted a squier jazzmaster but the features and colour of the vintage modified jazz and jag diddnt appeal. That gold pickguard would have to be replaced by a black or white one though

I thought about getting one long and hard, and realized that I didn't want to deal with getting another Squier neck that cramped the hell out of my hand and having to replace it (at which point I could just get a used CP if I was patient).
I bought a Mustang instead, called it good.

I'll probably been in on one of those, been looking for a cheap JM with more traditional controls...

yes its about time squier gave us some 'more or less proper' offsets. Lets have the duosonic in more colours (no more black or red guitars please!), and a mustang maybe? they could have slightly simplified versions of these guitars- even a jaguar- to save costs but lots of us folks GAS for these models in affordable versions, especially given the recent quality of squier guitars

I'm hoping they are decent, I really am - just not sure how much of a market there is as the pricepoints between the Blacktops and these are tiny.
I know, I know, Blacktop JM doesn't have 100% traditional stuff but it too is a platform for mods and a starting point for 'do I like a JM.'
I do expect a clearance sale on the 'Vintage modified' Jazzmasters shortly.

I would probably pick up a VM on clearance despite its non traditional setup.
