After having a stroke a year back and more recently severe osteoarthritic stenosis in L2-L3 and L3-L4 region this last month or so (still ongoing) I agree with you totally. Ya gotta keep playing no matter what.
Your playing attests that there is indeed a good quality of life after major disabilities if you work for it.
Good on you, Bro!
Keep up the good example!

I will, but usually am too tired to play after working all day. And my mind hasn't got a though in it on what to play.
Thanks Don and Bill! You are both the Bomb.
Don, I just watched the clip! Wow is all I can say!
Do you know Catfish Keith? You could pass for brothers. He played the Monmouth Blues Fest in 2008.

This just in from the neurologist. Now he is telling me the arm pain is from the Stroke and only medication or massage will give relief.
From www.stroke.org
"After a stroke, the brain does not understand normal messages sent from the body in response to touch, warmth, cold and other stimuli. Instead, the brain registers even slight sensations in the skin as painful."
More power to you Don and Bill! We are part of the Strokey club.

Well no pain is a good thing. I think it caused Fibro Myalgia in my case. I am not looking forward to Winter either unless Santa brings me a CS Rory Gallagher Stratocaster.
Keep the Faith.

I had open heart surgery about 10 weeks ago and am just about 100% back. I only missed 2 shows and agree completely, you have to keep playing no matter what.
Keep it going Don!

Don, Should I go to the Galesburg OSF St Mary's Stroke Support Group and play Blues guitar for them?
I think it would inspire them, but I do not know full songs, yet can deliver some blues licks and SRV and Jimi.

Ron, that sounds like a great idea. Maybe some of the other attendants also play. Any event I think it's great therapy for the player and the listener...do it my friend....

I am no pro and make mistakes.
I try to cover up the mistakes with flair.
And I do not know only one complete song.
I can play some Jimi licks, SRV, John Mayer, Eric Clapton. This is where I have my fun just knocking around.
I have though about approaching the new BBQ place in Galesburg about such. This is C&R's Smokehouse on Cherry Street here in Galesburg in the old moose club.

Get some of your "player" friends to help out. Practice a few oldies then deliver the goods. Invite the people you play for to join in or sing along. You will make their day for sure....

Hope all is going well for you Ron. I'm kicking around the idea of a Spring jam at one of our clubs we play at. I'll keep you posted. Have you returned to driving yet? Did you ever get your gig off the ground for the support group?

I can't drive and eyesight will not be getting better unless Stem Cell comes along. I did not get the Stroke Support group gig off the ground yet. I listened to your link again and watched the speed you are able to start and stop slides. One of my week points is lack of feeling and buzz in the left arm. Doesn't sound like this will get any better either., but I guess iff I keep playing, my fine motor may overtake the buzz.

You keep at it and never give up...I seen a guy on YT who plays with his feet...just sayin. Where there is a will ,there is a way. I got fitted for a pair of prism glasses about a month ago. The first pair was wrong so I'm waiting for the second pair. It may correct the double vision I have all the time. I still don't know about driving though.I don't have any support groups around here (we really live in the boondocks) but I've met several folks who have had strokes even a 12 year old who had one at 6 due to undiagnosed diabetes. I've seen these peoples progress small as it is sometimes but ALL still have a solid spirit and the will to improve. Count yourself blessed that you have people who love you and don't mind lending a hand when needed. You will get better Ron....

I am sorry about your not being able to drive. I wanted to try priz glasses, but my ehe doc siad they wouldn't help me. So I can't drive cause I do not have any left peripheral out of either eye. This effects guitar playing also as I can't see the neck out of the corner of my eye. Combined with the numbness in the finger tips, it is tough.
