I have a 1971 F47 that needs a neck reset. It's the first decent guitar I ever bought, and I want to bring it back to former glory.

I've been told that Guilds are difficult to reset, and I don't want to take a chance of a screwup through lack of experience.

I live in San Diego, but am willing to ship it if need be. Anyone have a recommendation for me?

Thanks for any help.

I have a Guild F47RC that was built in August of 2007. Great guitar. But early on it had a truss rod issue and came under warranty coverage. I took the guitar to an authorized Guild service shop (Woodsong's Lutherie in Boulder, CO--that being the closest quality one to where I live--5-1/2 hours away, and the recommended repair shop from the guys at Wildwood Guitars). Because it was such an in depth repair that was needed, it shipped off to Fender/Guild's custom luthiers in Nashville; a shop with perhaps a dozen guys working in it. Some are finishing experts (nitro, etc.), others are neck and body guys.

Anyway, though they kept the guitar for quite some time, the guitar was returned to me with a completely new neck installed on the guitar. There is no possible way you could ever detect that such a major repair was done to this instrument from any physical evidence. The quality of work was immaculate, returning the guitar to its full glory.

I do think that there are some good luthiers in San Francisco that can certainly send this thing in the right direction (from the little I know).

Hope that helps.

SF area has Gryphon Stringed Instruments, Eric Shoenberg Guitars, and Gary Brawer, all excellent. I'd call and consult with each of them to see if they have handled a Guild neck set before - and if they'd be hip to tackling it again.
