FDP Forum / Fender Product Reviews / Classic Series 72 Telecaster ® Thinline

Last year I bought a Classic Series 72 Telecaster Thinline. My intention was to replace an annoying to play Gibson P-90 Special. Some pickup height and pole piece adjustments on the wide range pickups, and many A-B tests later, I managed to get a noiseless humbucking match to the P-90’s. The immediately noticable feature of this Telecaster is the light weight. The perfectly finished vintage frets allow the action to be set low with no hint of fret buzz. String action is so effortless, you can play for hours with no ill effects on the fingers. It was hard to get time away from playing or admiring the beautiful natural finish wood grain and write this review. I was inspired, because today I sold the Les Paul Special.

I used to have a 72 thinline. Compared to the 72 deluxe it gives the wide range hambuckers a sort of additional airy tone. Like comparing a les Paul to an es335. Do miss its lightweight nature. The deluxe I have is very heavy, more than most.

I love my 72 thinline. The tone is so sweet and really easy to pair with amps. I have some guitars that don't like particular amps and vice versa, but always get a great tone from the thinline. Enjoy
