wow, it's been a while.

I've just fitted a cheap and simple amp-powered fan using the DC supply available fom the red footswitch socket.

voila....

Nifty! Being that I've fired up my PRII for about 30 minutes in the past year I think I'm good without the fan.

I miss making noise :-/

Yeah, yeah. Its just that I've moved 1200 miles away from all my bandmates and live in a condo now. I still play but mostly through tabletop foolishness into my recording program.

The itch for a band hasn't been strong enough to go looking.

Aha. I'm in the same situation, though it was only 250 miles. I play in church but just haven't got the time to join a gigging band (and maybe there's a Groucho Marxist thing going on there anyway - would I want to join any band that would have me as a member?)

With an archtop, I used the PRII for a kind-of jazz/showtunes thing just before Christmas and folks told me it sounded jazzy. Whatever that means.

check out the photo currently on the front page of the PRII website - the woody PRII with a dovetailed perspex top, made by Fender as a 1983 NAMM exhibit, is up for sale....

edit - it sold within hours! cool though, no?

A couple of recent additions to the PRII website... on the schematic page I've added the wiring diagram with coloured lines to show the signal paths.

I've recently been sent a possible solution to the 'clean tone sucks with footswitch' problem. I haven't tried it yet but I have added the link to the footswitch page.

I never had the footswitch so I guess I don't know what I missed.

On another note I plugged in my PRII the other day just to see if it still worked.

It did. Actually made me feel a little nostalgic. I plugged in all my guitars. I forgot how glorious a Tele sounds through this amp.

I still gig with mine and still get props for the sound from fellow musicians, who haven't played with me before. One PRII has an Eminence The Tonker in it, but I think it needs to be replaced soon. I recently replaced a Red Fang with a Cannabis Rex in the other one, thinking it would warm the sound a bit. It did, but since that Tonker is beginning to fart out in the bass when pushed, I think the Red Fang is going to replace it.

I just reacquired one of my old Princeton II amps. I sold it years ago to a friend who sold it to a friend. But now its back "home." After reuniting with it, I took it to the shop for a tune-up: getting the cap can replaced.

This is me writing from the University of the Rather Obvious, but here goes anyway.

I needed to replace the tired 6V6s in my PRII and remembered I had a pair of NOS Brimars I was saving for a rainy day. Then I thought, "why? what would that rainy day look like? Live now." So I fitted them and biased to around 60%.

First rehearsal with them in place yesterday... thoughts included, woo hoo! My baby's back! this is what this amp is supposed to sound like! There's so much natural harmonic goodness, so I'm using fewer effects! etc etc.

(still got a pair of unused NOS Mazdas...)

I put a set of Brimars in mine when I originally acquired the amp. I was gigging a lot in those days, the amp sounded great. I haven't seen Mike from KCA tubes around these parts for a while but see he has NOS Brimars in stock. I thought these tubes had pretty much dwindled to ANOS offerings.
