A new member over at the ramp mentioned how she couldn't go to nashville this weekend because she had to watch the dogs. Sounds like a song. I put together a girl version and asked if she wanted to co-write on it (she sings really well!). While I am awaiting her response (I don't know if she thinks she can trust old, married guys), I penned the guy version.

As for my vocals here: they are what they are (ha, ha).

Kevin

P.S. What's this thing with SoundClick auto-playing the tune nowadays? Couple of tech glitches here and there -- I'll fix them soon enough.

This is Her Weekend (to watch the dogs)
(c) Emmrich 2010 (Guy Version)

(verse)
I wanna go fishing
My ex is bitching
That there's two dogs to watch
Says she needs a vacation
or some appreciation
but her lame story doesn't wash

(verse)
I don't really miss her
or the way things were
and she's supposed to keep Delta and Dawn
we wrote it the agreement
Judge Judy signed and sealed it
this is her weekend to watch the dogs.

(chorus)
I wish I was out barking
or howling at the moon
or down at Danny's
Buying babes typhoons
but here I am at home
Dog Whisperer on the tube
It must be against the law
this is her weekend to watch the dogs.

(verse)
I'm gonna call my lawyer
and the National Guard
and when they arrest her, I'll applaud
she thinks she's found a loop hole
but she ain't gonna get parole
this is her weekend to watch the dogs.

(chorus again)

(bridge)
You know Delta and Dawn are sort of sweet
and they love lying by my feet
but Sam just gave a shout,
there are spring break girls all about

(chorus again and tag)

You really have a knack for writing good lyrics, Kevin. I always get hung up on trying to make things rhyme, but this is a good example that they doesn't always have to.

On your second verse, I'm thinking "kiss her" would rhyme nicely with "miss her"...

Well, there's rhyming and then there's rhyming. Not all rhymes have to be "perfect" rhymes -- just as long as the ear can hear some similarity.

For the verses, I used an AACBBC rhyming format:
1.) fishing-bitchin' (AA), Vacation-Appreciation (BB), watch-wash (CC)
2.) her-were (AA), agreement-sealed it (BB), Dawn-dogs (CC)
3.)lawyer-Guard (AA), hole-parole (BB) applaud-dogs (CC)

Chorus: The chorus has moon-typhoons-tube and then ends with law-dogs.

Bridge: Pretty straight forward with sweet-feet and shout-about.

Thanks for giving it a listen, Mike!

I'd be interested to hear her (girl version) if she records it. Perhaps a guy-girl duet would work out well if you both can agree on it?

If not, just splice and dice where you see fit.
