Well, my new 6120-1959 may be a killer, but it comes with a setup guide that is essentially useless: Not one single spec! There's nothing on the Gretsch website either. I had to reset the bridge because the seller loosened the strings before shipping and it moved enroute. No biggie I just set it like a Gibson. BUT, what would really help is some basic pickup settings. When I got it the 24 pole pieces were all extended quite a bit and it sounded way too thin. All I can find is a TV Jones Classic setup spec, which I tried last night & found to be much closer to what I thought a vintage Gretsch should sound like. Anyone got a link to some basic setup specs for vintage Gretsch's?

Thanks fitz. My question was about intonation. Covers that real good.

I was more looking for relief, action setting and pickup adjustment recommendations. Never really found anything other than some pickup settings on the TV Jones site. I just set it up like a Gibson. Swithched it from 10s to 11s tonight, very good move.

Definite improvement on my 3 gretsches when I put 11's on. Also, I put Tru-Arc bridges on all 3 to improve playability and action. Bit expensive but well worth it.

Ditto, I just put 11s on mine and the improvement in tone is very significant. I plan to try 12s with a wound third next, but I'd be very happy with the 11s. My thought is that the 10s just don't tension the bridge or Bigsby enough to get the top to respond.

I'm in uk and get them from the following link. If you mail Deke there he may be able to put you in touch with US suppliers. Also, if you look at the gretsch forum a guy on there called proteus makes them.

Overdue update: Put 12s on it and it started playing and sounding like a proper Gretsch. These kind of make the tone blossom like I remember from the 60s Gretschs I had.
