We played a great outdoor gig last night. My main rig is a 1968 silver drip edge Bassman head on a a 1x12" Fender cabinet. Tone to die for from my Tele and volume to spare even outdoors. I wonder how many jobs this old warhorse has played (I mean the amp, not me) since '68? It may not be high on the Collector's List, but as a gigging amp, the Bassman is hard to beat. Oh yes, Thanks to Dave Allen for making it sound so sweet.

A 1x12 cabinet eh???
Is that a vintage cab?
Open back? Closed? Dimensions?
Speaker?
Cool...I've been thinking about making something like that. Thanks for any info...

I have a 68 drip edge as well. sits on a '66 2x12 cab with C12N's. seems to break up better than most of my other amps. used with a BBE Green screamer it's pretty much my favorite amp. i usually set the volume on 3. anything above that starts to break up pretty easily. it is very responsive to your playing style.
i don't know if the mojo is in the speaker cab or the head? all of my other amps seem to sound better when run through that cab.

I'm once again contemplating the 60-watt Supersonic 1-12 combo. And the channel on it I seek is the blackface-era bassman into that 1-12 open-back arrangement.
I demo'd Teles, Strats, and a Les Paul through it...stunning amp.

Bassmen rule!! I made a few pine cabs for BF and SF heads; 1-12 open back. nice and compact, yet loud and fat enough for most venues...I call 'em the best amp Fender never made....Love that extra gain stage (V2a)....Plenty of simple mods can turn this into an absolute tone monster...I notice that the ebay sales prices keep heading higher; I'm not surprised..

I'm in the process of modding my '73 Bassman 50. I already performed all the necessary mods: 3-prong, filter and cathode bypass caps, death-cap removal, etc. Then I converted the Normal channel, Phase Inverter, and Bias to Blackface specs. The Normal channel itself sounds great.
I removed everything in the Bass channel and will put a Marshall 2204 preamp in its place. I have everything drawn out and have most of the parts. I have a feeling this won't work but I'm going to try it anyway.
