I'm not a fan of the Backstreet boys but a fan of any well writen song in any genres. Back to the Backstreet boys, the song "I wan't it that way", is to me, a really really great pop song, really well writen, musicaly speaking ( but, ok, let's forget about the lyrics please!) And the vocals are really great too. Those guys have great voices.

Nice chorus with mixed melodic lines, nice verses, simple but so powerful bridge, nice groove etc.

I'm blown away each time I listen to that song. Please tell me why some song writers as Max Martin are able to easily transform some very simple motifs as

............E..............
...C.......................
A.................A........
........................G..

and

G............................
...F.........................
......E......................
.........D...................
............C.........C......
................B............

into such a beautiful song? Please tell me why they are and why I'm not !!!

He has probably written hundreds, if not thousands, of songs. He has probably studied what works and doesn't work and he has probably worked harder at "craft" than most.

"I didn't even know what a producer did, I spent two years day and night in that studio trying to learn what the hell was going on." - Max Martin , March 19, 2001

Excellent quote Kevin. Just what I needed at the moment. Yeah, There's no easy way. Talent:10%, Hard work: 90%. So in my case, I probably need to work 85% harder...
