Does anyone here do this when writing a song?:

you come up with the music part, then lets say you add the words and melody. do you write out the notes of the vocal / melody line?

i think this would be pretty cool... but i don't know how to do this.

I think if I want to take my writing to the next level then that is exactly what I need to do. Since I am limited, singing-wise, I often just sing the easy way out without really listening. If I mapped out the melody on piano or guitar, I would force myself to write better melodies.

Sure. It's no different than writing out a melody for an instrumental, like a jazz tune.

But even on a pop tune, I'll often write the melody out, so I can remember how it goes later, or so I can show it to somebody else.
