A local School of Rock has some of these for $369 "slightly used".

I'd like a keyboard that's a step up from my Radio Shack/Casio that has really decent piano sounds.

I think that just about anything from Roland will be a step up from anything from Radio Shack or Casio.

Where in Rockland are you?? I'm here in Haverstraw.

New City. Any opinion about the $369 price point? Is there something clearly better for the money?

The Roland Juno-D and the Yamaha S03 are going to come in pretty close to that number and are loaded with nice sounds. I have the Yamaha and I use it for practices and as a lightweight keyboard to take to open-mics and jams, and practices so I don't have to haul a big rig around.

How's the acoustic piano sounds on the Juno-D?

There's a lot of these available used on eBay.

Are there any online sound demo's?

I personally liked the Yamaha better but YMMV. I believe that Yamaha has demos online, not sure about Roland.

Do you know anything about the Roland E-30? It isn't full size, but it has some pretty neat sounds on it.

I have one but don't use it much. Are MIDI cables even used for anything anymore? Can I plug it into my computer?

You need midi cables if you're going to use any external sound modules, or if you plan to control or change patches on your rig from one single master keyboard or footpedal controller.
