Lately, I've been curious about a DeArmond double cut Starfire.

Does anyone here have any experience with them? How do they play and sound?

Does anyone know where there might be one available at a reasonable price? I just missed out on one in PA on craigslist.

I've always wanted one as well....I do have the Starfire Bass which is simply an awesome instrument. I can't imagine any way the Starfire guitar would sound bad, especially with the Goldtones.

The Starfire Custom (as the double-cut DeArmond Starfire is known) is an excellent guitar. They show up now and then on eBay. I know of one available for $450, new condition with case, plus shipping, but that may be outside your "reasonable" limit. Light's on if you need the referral.

There was a Starfire Custom at a local music store a while back. Great sounding/playing guitar. I missed my opportunity and ended getting a single cut Starfire Special which has the DeArmond 2000 pickups.

The quality of the build of those two DeArmonds was excellent

I have one sitting in it's case. Been ages since I played it, but I haven't been able to part with it either because it's pretty versatile. I can do the jingle/jangle thing, blues, jazz, some rock as it doesn't feedback too bad. I really like the Goldtone pickups. I installed a Dearmond Bigsby on it but it's kind of stiff feeling. One of the clips that hold back the wiring in the bottom F hole became unstuck from the body and I can't seem to get it to stick back down.

I had a left-handed DeArmond Starfire in natural which I loved, only sold it because the 'lefty experiment' didn't work out. One of these days I'm going to get a righty, but I've noticed that DA Starfires are bringing pretty good prices, even in this economy.

We also have a DA Starfire Special in antique burst, which is a very nice guitar.
