30+ year guitarist here who just bought his first kb, a used Yamaha YPT 300. What spurred the purchase was a major flare of my chronic left wrist problems, which has rendered me unable to play guitar chords.

So, since I took a few years of piano back in hs and got a pretty good grounding in theory, I thought I might be able to make some noise on the kb with just my right hand.

Any other one-handers out there? With these fancy digital kb's, can you make a big sound with one hand?

I use my keys exclusively for recording, adding riffs and sound textures and such. Pretty much use only my right hand.

Last time I saw Gregg Allman I don't think he used his left hand once. If he did, I wasn't looking. 8^)

Paul Shaefer usually uses one hand--so do I, most of the time. No one has complained so far!

I primarily an organist so I'm guilty of mostly playing one-handed too. I catch a little guff sometimes from people who just don't "get it" but what do I care.

As far as most of my piano/wurli/rhodes playing goes, I stay off or very light on the left hand so as not to get too deep into the bass players area.

There was a very good MASH episode which featured a G.I. who lost the use of one hand. He was a concert pianist and Winchester found him some music specifically for one hand only. Awesome.

If you are thinking of playing in a band, one hand is no problem, as the others fill in. I broke my left hand a month ago and was able to be on stage the next day with a cast. I did use my index finger on one song that required a few more notes.

I have a new Korg M3 and yes, you can make a big sound with just your right hand. Check one out.

I play keys not piano so most of the work is done with the right hand. I do tonic-5th-octave with the left. Bass players love me not stepping on the bass line and I can get a rythmic sound going with the left and play with the right

a little practice and ignore the piano purists...LOL
