just spotted one of these for sale. I can see that its the lesser., bolt on neck, no neck binding, no pickguard version, but a lot of reviews i've read say these have very nice necks.
I love the shape of this guitar, but is it worth snapping up and maybe modding pups etc, or are these 'specials' best avoided? I know that, for example Epi SG specials have bolt-on necks and cheaper parts but as with many such models the necks are good enough to justify buying and then upgrading parts.
Any advice would be much appreciated folks.

Mine is a pretty good instrument, I have played & gigged with it for a few years. The neck is wide with a slight radius which gives lots of room to work. It's light, comfortable, and I find the electronics are passable.

Oh, and usually inexpensive, too!

I decided to let this one go and hold out for the more upmarket model if i can find one (set neck, binding etc). From what i've read these are really well made guitars with very good pickups, and of course they look great donr they

I like my Korean manufactured Jet-Stars a lot...very well made instruments.

Bought both of them on the cheap during the infamous DeArmond 'blow-out' days.

I'd say you made a good decision in holding out for the Korean models as opposed the Indonesian made 'Specials'.

Yes, even though the logical side of me says this is basically a twin humbuckered ?mahogany bodied guitar and essentially no different from many others apart from the wonderful shape... but sometimes its exactly that - the shape or look of a guitar swings it. And i bet those pups are good

There's another just listed on Ebay at time of this post.

I have a DeArmond M-65 and can attest to it's quality, superb tone, and great value. I've also played the DeArmond SG copy which was made at the same time the Jetstars and LP copies were being produced and it too was great.

I'm glad I stocked up back in the blowout days, thanks to a lot info I got right here!

I'd guess the S72 (SG-like, or for the Guild fans, S100-like) would sound much like the JetStars. The Goldstars and 'hog bodies are nice match.

I'm not sure, I think I've only played one Jetstar, and briefly; but the S72 is a bit neck heavy (like many SG types are) and the JetStar might balance better.
