I am a guitarist who only dabbles with keys for fun, have a 6 yr-old daughter who likes to sit at our older Yamaha PF-1500 and has aspirations of playing. I'm considering replacing our older model with another digital piano offering weighted keys, a stand and maybe some new-fangled bells/whistles, been sniffing around and found the Yamaha YPG-535.
Any owners? Anyone played one? Good quality? Sound? Opinions appreciated.

I was noodling on a smaller YPG 235 and thought that it had some cool features. It seems that the 88 key version has even more features.

In that price range, I'd suggest also looking at some Alesis models.

I have one and use it for my recordings in my home studio...mostly piano and strings and such...and I think it does a great job for that. Check out my track "Feel So Lonely" to hear the grand piano in a mix...if you listen close you'll hear other keyboard stuff in the track too...all from the ypg-535. I'm a guitar player (I use that term loosely) and for just dabbling with keys...I love it...the 88 keys is awesome. And my track "Just about Dead"...shows off some of the synthy stuff too...

Rasmuth - Sounds very good.
How is the "graded" key weighting system? Can one adjust the weight enough to approximate fully weighted keys like a real piano?

its not as much weighted than touch sensitive...the harder you hit it, the louder it is....I've never played "real" piano...so fully weighted didn't mean much to me and to tell you the truth...the touch sensitive sometimes interferes with my playing so I turn it off...then is more like a synth...the volume is one volume when you play...I do think the keys are semi-weighted though...have more heft than just a synth...in regards to feel.

for a hack like me...the keyboard is perfect...plenty of sounds and they record well...but for a serious player, the next level up with the fully weighted keys might serve them better...the ypg635...but it means more scratch too...so...you have to weight the pro's and cons.

For the money, I think the ypg-535...is lotsa bang for the buck.

It has been the single most important addition to my home studio since I started doing it...no more MIDI...can record sounds directly into my interface and they sound great.
