Hi there,

Over the past weeks / months, I've been trying to sing while playing the guitar at home. I never tried before. I finally found something at which I was worse than playing the guitar! :-)

I never have attended a singing class, never had a coach, I just try to do it by myself.

I have difficulties in being in tunes, and I think that, as for anyone, what I hear is not what people hear.

So i was wondering whether anyone would have some advises as to which exercises / tips could help me in singing in tune, and being more at ease with this exercise...

1 get a vocal coach
2 get a vocal coach
3 find a song you are very comfortable on the guitar to sing along with
4 put the guitar down and get the lyrics with chords and listen closely to the song make notes on the song. I.e the song stops here, pitch drops rises etc also make sure the chord changes are in the right spots

5 practice, practice , practice
6 - 10 get a vocal coach

If I can do so can you, have fun

Record yourself.

Play the guitar sparingly- on the 1 only, or when a change happens- strum once. Focus on singing.

Find, by listening to the recording, the places where you vocally have issues.

Singing has always come natural to me, but playing and singing has not.

Just like playing in a band, you have to listen- even to yourself!

If you can get a coach, that'd help, too!!!

Jack excellent advice on record yourself I use a zoom h2 and record everything our band does and listen. It really shows you where to make improvments.

Figure out the notes of the song you're singing.
If you can play the melody on guitar you can isolate the notes that are giving you trouble, and you can practice the intervals.
I find it really helps me to be fully aware of where the melody exists in relation to the chords I'm playing.
