Can anyone tell me about the general quality level of 80's era Starfires? Was Westerly still the production facility at this time? Are the 90's reissues actually thought to be more desirable than 80's Starfires?

Also wondering about the pickups. I've seen a couple examples of 80's Starfires online, and they've both had humbucker pickups without nickel plated covers. Was this standard at this time, or did I just happen to see 2 altered guitars?

Thanks for any info..

You can check out the letstalkguild.com forum. Lots of great Guild experience and enthusiasm. Go to the link below and I believe you want to head into the Archtops/Hollowbodies thread.

I have heard that the 80's Guilds are just fine, that Guild quality never really suffered over the decades, even the Korean DeArmonds are nice. The SF HB pickups are supposed to be brighter than Gibson, which is condsidered a good thing.

Thanks Bigfoot. I did find the letstalkguild forum this evening and registered.

Thanks for your thoughts. I really think I'm going to take the plunge and get a Starfire not sure if reissue or a vintage one. I think I'll prob. sell my strat then, though I like it. But I'm more attached to my Tele. Then I'll have a Tele and a Starfire and I think the two will be good counterparts to one another.
