I've been really wanting a nice acoustic for some time now, and have come across a F30RLS - F30 size, rosewood back and sides, and the LS supposedly means "long scale neck". I'm having trouble locating information to let me know whether it is worth buying (and spending some money on repairs).

There is only one review on that model on Harmony Central, which claims it is a Guild Custom Shop model, made only in 1999, with total production of less than 100.

The case is imitation alligator, with brass Guild Custom Shop tag, and the only internal marking on the guitar (besides the Guild name on a back brace) is a label stuck on the neck heel, with Guild Custom Shop, a split-G logo, the model number, serial number 66081xx, and "Made in the USA". Does not specify which factory it may have come from, maybe Westerly or Corona?

There is no serial number on the back of the headstock, and a previous owner installed an under-saddle pickup, putting a battery holder screw into the last 2 digits of the serial number inside.

The headstock has the typical modern Guild raised center shape, but the overlay is rosewood, instead of black, with an inlaid "Guild" (script style), but no Chesterfield. It also has a 3-piece neck, looks like mahogany.

I'll upload some photos into my profile later, but hope Hans or someone else can help me determine the authenticity, year, and approximate value - the guitar has some condition issues - serious finish checking, a top split, and wood missing (broken, not worn) from the bass side of the soundhole. But it sounds great and plays great.

Wolf Papa.

Your best bet to contact Hans would be at the Guild Forum where he mostly hangs out.

Thanks, I sent an email to him before I read your post. Hope it's the same as I had from a few years ago. I may follow up with a post in the forum you mentioned.

Hans was kind enough to respond and confirm some of the info I had. I'm having it repaired and should have it back in a few weeks.

I used to own an F30r-ls and can comfortably say that you own a superior instrument. Mine was made in 2001 and I used it as my primary guitar for playing live and recording for 7 plus years. I'm sure Hans has given you all the info you need, but if you have any other questions, please feel free to email me at plaidseason@yahoo.com
