Is anyone using one of these Roland workstations? I got to play around on one at a local store and it is simply amazing with endless possibilities.

Of course, I'd have to win a lottery or something to be able to afford one.

I was in a recording studio the other day (though not as a musician) that had one of these and got a chance to tinker with it a bit. It’s certainly a cool instrument, but I guess I ’ve grown a bit weary of each successive round of “new bells & whistles” on the high-end ‘boards lately...makes me appreciate the simplicity of a Rhodes even more.

The way you afford one is going used. It'll be a while before G8s start showing up on CL and eBay at better prices though.

I bought my Motif ES used for 30% off street eighteen months after it hit the market. It's still more than enough workstation for me!

I have an older Fantom X6 and I could not be happier. 2k at the time but when you can layer the sounds and split the keyboard up not to mention the vast ammount of built in sounds I could never go back. I use it to gig not as a workstation. Yes you can launch the shuttle with it but its durable enough to gig with.

When I do Born to Run and the piano has a glockenspiel and a soft vibe built in you hit the exact sound of the song and it makes a big difference. You can add individual horm patches to create custom horn sections and its so much better then the same patches everyone else is using.

It has a built in virtual 16 channel mixing board so you can dial in how ever much of a patch you want in the over all sound and then save it for future use

I figured I would buy right and buy once
If you can afford it - then I would go for it but look for hte X series used and save a ton of money

My brother Larry, who works for Roland, and of course, has one. I've played it several times and I'm amazed at all the features.

If you have any questions, he'll be glad to answer them.
