FDP Forum / Guild/DeArmond/Tacoma Guitars / 2000-2001 Guild F47 for $800?!

Long story short...my local shop has an F47mc tagged at $999 but my usual salesman said I can take it for $799. I asked him why it's so cheap if new ones run over $2k and he mentioned something about some questionable QC around these years, toward the end of the Westerly plant. I played it for a second and it seemed just fine. Is there something I should look closer at before buying it?

That guitar was built in Corona. Some folks feel they were not so well put together...

I disagree 100%! I've owned a D-50 built in Corona and have played MANY other Corona-built Guilds and every one of them was a super instrument.

If you like the sound/playability of this F-47, GRAB IT. That's a GREAT price!

Hey thanks for the response! Could you give me an example of "not so well put together..."? Are there any glaring defects that these are known for you can think of that I should try to look for? Thanks again.

Usual suspects might be finish flaws, poorly applied binding, glue drips/overruns inside.
I have a Corona D-40E that is flawless, toneful & a keeper.
