"I have some new songs to copyright, but it almost seems like a waste of time and money."

Why?
In what respect?

If it takes a year or more for my Form SR to be processed, my songs won't have any copyright protection for a long period of time.

Wrong.

You'll have protection once the CO gets your package.

It's been a while so I don't remember if they send you a receipt. I don't think so, so just to be safe, send them a package with a return receipt or registerred mail or whatever (I'm not a postal person so you may want to do your own research to see what is best for you). And pay by check. That way you'll have a check and a receipt, and can devote all of your time to becoming famous and/or creating your next masterpiece.

And let us not forget, most likely the only way someone will steal your song is if you have a song worth stealing to begin with. I think most people need to be concerned with THAT first.

Thanks for clarifying. I do think I have some well worth stealing.
