A local project I`ve started played a Halloween party a week ago, and with only a screech/clam or two, my voice made it through 3 sets of songs. I think relying on cough drops non-stop and plenty of fluids helped, along with the bass player helping on a couple choruses with harmony parts also. I was concerned about making it through, since there`s only one instrumental!!.....(good ol` "Wipeout")

As long as you sing regularly, are not yelling your head off, or talking over loud noise, your voice can hold up over long consistent gigs. One year I did a 7 hour gig on New Years Eve featuring just my guitar and voice. At the time I was doing 3-5 gigs a week, all of them 3 hour gigs. I'd never do a 7 hour gig again though. It was a bit much.

You definitely need to be in shape vocally by singing regularly. I've also found that avoiding alcohol during the gig prolongs my ability to hit my full range.
