I am excited this year.
I get to open for three of the best acts in the blues genre...
The "second stage" plays while the main stage "turns over". My band gets three 30 minute sets on Saturday, Sept 13.
At 6:00 pm we take the stage for our first set and open for the internationally famous artist best known by the FDP regulars as "thefarmcaster". That's right boys and girls, we open for The Adam Wyatt Band.
And when Adam gets finished with his set, (around 7:30) we get back up (tough act to follow, but we will try) and then play a second 30 minute set. This time we "open" for 2006 & 2007 Blues Music Award Female Contemporary Blues Artist of the Year (formerly called the WC Handy Awards), Janiva Magness.
When Janiva completes her set (around 9:00 pm) we get back up and "open" for The Chris Duarte Group....
How cool?
Three of the best.
For more info, follow the link.
The Stillwater, Oklahoma Blues Fest is the "largest FREE blues festival in Oklahoma" (4 days).
If you make it to the festival, I am the fat guy. No, the other one. Yeah, that's me. The "short, fat guy".

I can't wait to see ya Tony.
I know Chris well, and if you haven't seen him before you are in for a treat. Chris is one of the best there is, the dude can play.
I haven't seen Janiva Magness live, but I've heard a lot about her, so I'm looking forward to hearing her for myself.
It would be great to see some FDP'ers in Stillwater. I'll have some time to hang out.
We are driving down Saturday and we will hang out until the festival is over, and then we have to head back to play at the Kansas Speedway at 8am Sunday morning for 15,000 bikers.
Should be a great weekend!!!!

Sounds great, Tony. I'd come down and be an audience shill for you, but I'm going to be in the KC area this weekend.

Adam....you mean there are "two" 8 o'clocks??? One in the "AM"....really? Who da thunk.
I am looking forward to seeing you again as well.
Maestro....you will be missed. But I appreciated you coming down before...so you are given an "excused absence".

How is it going Tony. Looks like rain, I hear they may move the gig inside.

I had a sound gig Thursday and did not get by until long after the evening activities were over. The stage was set up and roof (truss and skin) structure in place on the main stage. Lights were hung, but all the sound gear was inside the truck. Protected for the over night storms.
I do not know if they had to relocate indoors for any of the first night performers.
I was assured they have contingency plans...so I am cool.
I am sure that she would call you if there was any cancellation of the event.

That "event center" is NOT that big...the "theater" is closed for roof repair...major problem. So the "event center" is the old "gym" made into a multi purpose room...maybe 500 people if the fire marshal is not around.
But, they would be true blues fans...
For a practical matter, it is not raining although we are predicted to have more over the next couple of days.

I spoke to Olen, the Blues Fest sound tech...he works for me part time when needed....
He told me that ALL the acts were "inside" last night (Thursday) and that while it is sunny right now, he expects they will stay indoors tonight as well...he did say they planned to run an audio and video feed to the outside stage...!?!? Whazzup wit dat?
I just plan to be "flexible" when the time comes.

And while I am thinking about my "load out"...would you like to use one of my bass rigs this year? I can let your bass player use my GK400RB head and either my 410 or 115 (or both if he needs them for a very HOT brick gym that is only permitted 400 people...)
Since I will be "direct" as well...I can get by with my SWR (or he can use it too) and my 210...
So feel free. 405-742-0312 cell
And with that...I am taking the lovely Mrs Wright to dinner and then to the festival...

Tony, if you have a spare bass rig that would be great. It would free me up some space in the van.
You rock dude!

I respectfully and happily withdraw my offer to provide a bass rig...
Gloria has a "house" bass amp...
Ampeg SVT Classic with the SVT Classic 810 cabinet.
There is a "house" drum kit as well. It is an older set of Ludwig. Your guy might want to bring his own kick pedal, snare and cymbals...maybe throne, if he is that picky.

That lady has class. Good looking. Great performer. Great band. She was truly a great act to see.
Did I mention she looks REALLY good in a low cut, tight black dress.

Thanks to everyone in Stillwater for such a great festival!
Tonys band sounded great, I was very impressed!!!!
I had a really good time. I hung out in the dressing room with Chris Duarte, we sat around and played guitars and talked about cars for a few hours. Very fun stuff.
Everybody was in a good mood, and glad to see one another, which isn't always the case when everbody had been driving all week.
It was just a special night.

After hearing Adam at an FDP jam in KC two years ago, (and seeing Janiva earlier this year here in Iraq)I would have liked to have been there, sounds like everything was great!

Adam....thanks for the kind words. I am glad you and the guys had a good time. Sorry about the detour and flooding...but that was a "Kansas" thing...not my fault. ;o)
Trumpet...I wish you could have been here too. Stay safe over there...
