I went over to GC at lunchtime yesterday, this is the best time, no wankers!

They had a Fender Test Drive promo going with a Marshall Vintage Modern 2266 with 425B Half Stack, new AmStd Strat, BOSS RT-20: Rotary Ensemble, Crybaby Wah Pedal, and a RAT pedal.

Wow! I first just played the Marshall without any effects. Of course it has that Marshall tone, but by adjusting the High & Low range values you can many tonal colors.

I kicked in the BOSS RT-20, switched on the the Mid Boost, and got (well close) to Robin Trower's tone. I played 'Bridge of Sighs' and a customer came over and went 'wow' :).

If you get the chance to play this setup, please do.

Is this amp capable of any cleans? Are they useable or just 'less gainy'?

"Is this amp capable of any cleans?"

Yes, but it was Marshall clean, not BF clean.

The Marshall amp I would like to have, but will never buy (only cause I don't really need it), is the Marshall JVM Series JVM410H with 1960B Half Stack.

This amp is so versatile it blows my mind! 4 separate channels, Clean, Crunch, OD1 & OD2 that are completely independent of each other, and you can 'save' setting via the MIDI pedal and 'recall' the same.

I've played thru this amp many, many times at GC and it made me want a Marshall. There is a combo size as well.

I just got the Vintage Modern 2266C Combo and I am overhelmed.
Used it for band rehearsal yesterday and I think I had the besst sound ever at band rehearsal.

Best thing about it: you need less stomping on the ground but can control your sound with your left hand fingers, right hand picking and guitar controls adjustment - now thats great!

Unbelievably warm and fat sound, very good clean sound especially - if it lacks anything, it lacks high gain capabilities.
Clean is of course not exactly Fender-clean, but it is very similar to what you get from a Bluesbreaker combo

Hey Rick, I've had the 1/2 stack for a year or more. Love it, especially in conjunction with a Super Reverb.

Don't get to do that often but what a sound!

Not sure if you know but there's a VM forum nd the designer hangs around and answers questions, great place for info on the amp.

Hi Dmoulton,
I've seen the link to that forum already on the Marshall homepage, but thanks a lot - did not know that the designer himself hangs around there as well.

My other amp is a Fender Concert Reverb, which is actually a kind of modern version of a Super Reverb. I need to get more Fendery-sounding speakers for it (thinking about C10Q and/or P10Q) but I am definitely planning to have that one together with the VM and a A/B/Y box in our rehearsal room and then I won't stop smiling all day. Already testdrove the VM in parallel with my Princeton Chorus at home and was overhelmed by the sound of Marshall crunch mixed with Fender clean - that is to die for .....

Did I say that I love my Vintage Modern?

It is time to put this thread on top again.

I got my used VM combo in January and played it since then.
We unfortunately did not gig during these months.

But talking band rehearsals, I am still as happy as the first time I used the amp.

I regularly play a Beck Stratocaster and an Epi Les Paul through it and get all those classic sounds.

This should no longer be honeymoon ... and I am still overhelmed by the sound. Makes me sooo happy :)

May I try that again?

Okay, noone else seems to post about this amp, but I was fortunate enough to play my 2266C at two gigs this weekend.
Both rather small gigs, one outdoor one indoor.
Outdoor needed another setup (more bass) but other than that, it was perfect.
I used the low dynamic mode set to almost clean (clean with the Strat but crunch with the Les Paul) a ZVex BOR for more rhythm overdrive and the high dynamic mode for solo - and I had the best sound I ever had.
(we played rock songs, some of our own and then some Lenny Kravitz, Aerosmith, RHCP, Thin Lizzy, Billy Idol etc ... of course, this is the kind of music where classic Marshall sound simply works :-)

I Use the marshall vintage modern 1/2 stack 50 watt almost exclusivly live
Its an amazingly versital amp, a little touchy and tough to initially dial in, but once there is really amazing!

here's my myspace link
THE TRACK "selective amnesia" was done with the VM dialed in may beyond the point of saTURATION

AND THE TRACK "dr. feelgood" was the same amp dialed in more typical marshall style

Yep, they are no longer there on the GC site, but they are still there on other sites ... just did a quick search ... unbelievable value for money, if you ask me.
