It is silly that they let a national treasure go like her. It would be like deposing Seymour Duncan!

This was just listed and it isn't my listing. Looks at these pickups and read the description and see if you can figure out what's wrong with this.

I found it right away, but look hard and you shouldn't miss it...

sometimes she sign's it with a blue pen, other times with gold...

Yep, the lack of a number (out of 300 sets) is the first clue. But the seller explains why that number is missing in his item description. Read what he says about it and see if you can figure out why that's just not possible in this case...

The Masterwounds should always be gray. And I believe all the Masterwound sets were signed by Abby with a blue or black ball point. With other black bottom sets she would more tylically use the gold to sign them. Sometimes silver...

ya know... something else... if you look real close where the pickup up case should be numbered, there appears to be some writing that is very faint, almost invisible, as if someone tried to erase over or cover up what was written....

I don't see anything else...

glad I'm not a strat guy or I might be tempted to fall for it...;-0

Okay, here we go...

When he makes this statement...

"These particular sets are final production PROTOTYPES used by Fender Custom Shop to approve the Limited Edition production"

The dates on the pickups themselves indicates that these two sets were wound near the END of the entire production lot. So they cannot be "final production PROTOTYPES" as he says.

At the same time, they do appear to be entirely authentic in every other way. But the lack of a production number might take some of the collectable value away from them.

It's more likely that Mike Eldred, or whomever at Fender, wanted 300 sets and Abby wound 302 just in case there were some rejects. And then there were no rejects. I would be much more inclined to believe that story.

The other small and almost insignificant mistake I found was that he listed the DC Resistance values backwards. The Neck pickup value is really the bridge pickup value and vice versa.

And of course, when one seller shows up with a huge selling price, there are always more ready to cash-in on it themselves...

hmm... different sellers, but both out of Arizona....

i can't imagine what these things will sell for 30 years from now...

like the PAF's from 40 years ago.

shoot I just paid 700 bills for a set of original Wide Range humbuckers.....
all things considered, I think that's a bargain...

Yeah, they are a bit off the map IMO. A collector might jump at one of the unused sets, but I'm sure the price would still be negotiated.

12 hours left and both sets are still available. So the seller reduces the price to $1,200...

Now On Sale!

"Yeah, it's fun to watch these sets coming back around again."

Yep.

I still have several sets custom wound and signed by Abby in my Fenders but the master wound series was not what I was looking for.

I still think that the $1500.00 asking price (or even $1200.00) is a bit on the high side.
