But seriously............I read somewhere that "one two check" is done for a reason - "one" for the bass eq, "two" for the mids and "check" for the highs.

"Check" and other sibilant sounds are good for the highs. The percusiive T of "two" as well as "p" sounds probably are an indicator of mic sensitivity.

The beauty of that one Jon965 is that it not only checks the PA, but it checks to see if anyone in the audience is under the influence of psycho-delics.

"I'm not the fig plucker. I'm the fig plucker's son. But I'll pluck the figs til the fig plucker comes."

Hint - do not say this after one or two drinks. It comes out all wrong.

IMHO It really won't matter much until people sing the way they sing when everything is up and on. I like checking the PA by doing a song with the entire band. Preferably one that starts out with just the rhythm section and adds instruments and vocals as it progresses. Have each section last long enough to play with the dials if required.

Mentioning fruit that much is probably not appropriate for some of the place I've played. :-p

I tend to sing extended words adding as much bass or treble in my voice so the sound guy can balance with eq.

then I go "MAAAAAAAAA!"

I can't wait to hear the excitement in the rest of your set Velvet! ;-)

Try this... just for variety. Go to a party store and get a bag of those "pull-to-pop" popper deals.

Then, step up to the mic and try: " Testing 3-2-1 " and pop off one of those suckers. Now, THAT'S entertainment!!

Seriously, I'm not trying to tell you what to do. I'm sure your mic test is much better in person.

"tasting 123,tasting tasting 123 yep tastes alright to me"

I was at a corporate event one day and before things started one of the guys walked up to the mic and said, "Testing, testing, testing, tasting testicles."
