"What is difference b/t Shure SM 58 and Beta 58 ?????"

The Beta 58 has more low-midrange pickup, has a pronounced bass drop off as you move the mic away from you mouth and is supercardioid (the 58 is cardioid)

Beta 58

Shure SM57. I know it's supposed to be an instrument mike but I find it picks up less ancillary sound than a SM58 which is also very nice.

No, that's random order. I think my favorite is the KSM 9, but I've only used one and don't own one, so I use the Audix OM-6 most of all. There's a lot of good mics out there these days. The best thing to do is to try as manny as you can until you hear one that sounds "right" with your voice. I wish there was an easier way.

Electrovoice ND-967.

It has the highest off-axis rejection of any vocal mic made. It's perfect for a crowded stage because you can be surrounded by amps and monitors, and the mic picks up only what's on axis over the grill. I used to use Sennheiser 835s, and when we plugged one of these EVs in, it had a lot more gain...and was quieter too. I was blown away.

They're built like tanks, too.

specs here.

EV N/D 767a +1

I also have a Beta 58a and 835e. But the EV is IMHO the best of the bunch.

Seeing how the differences between an SM58 and Beta 58 were described, what about a Beta 58 v. a Beta 87?

*Edited to change was to were.

Ok I have stated above that I liked my ev 767 the best. Well I made the mistake of trying the beta 87c.

Wow this is a really good mic. It is now my number 1

my favorite mike overall is the AKG 535EB. Very open and neutral, great for singing, speaking and live recording. Very low proximity effect.

So you guys with the Shure Beta 87, are you primarily using the "a" or "c"?
