The ironic thing is that some of the best piano players are relatively unknown studio cats, IMO.

Indeed. Another reason why I lament the decline in popularity of vinyl LPs, CDs and their liner notes/credits. Reading the “fine print” introduced me to great studio players like Michael Omartian, Greg Phillinganes and Patrick Leonard.
