I will dare. If it helps somebody from ruining anything else in their life, it'll be worth it.

Hey, I'm not trying to be Little Mary Sunshine, and I know I don't have a Magic Recovery Wand. It just seems like there's a lot of us around, and a lot of guys bring up the subject when/if they get miserable enough.

May 10, 1990.

If back then I could have looked into the future sixteen years and seen what my life is like now, I wouldn't have belived it in a million years.

5/29/88 was my first clean date. Then on 12/23/98 with ten-plus years, I had a beer & a toke at a Xmas party with some old friends I hadn't seen in a long time. After all, surely I was well.

Six-plus years later, strung out way worse than I ever was (or ever intended), I somehow crawled back. That was 2 years, two months & 13 days ago.

I applaud anyone whose life was out of control, for whatever reason, and who now has got it together.

It has been variously referred to as "Hitting Bottom", "A Moment Of Clarity", or perhaps most poetically, "Puking Through Your Nose" that one last time.

I have a pal who told me about his "Moment Of Clarity":

"Driving the porcelain bus" one morning, he wondered if the neighbors up & down the block were doing that too..

At that precise moment, the toilet seat fell down and gave him a good crack on the back of his head.

Presto! A "Moment Of Clarity"!

I know I joke around alot but, I'm proud of you guys being clean.

Wish My Older Brother would clean up. 30 years of Hell, 30+ Rehabs, 2 Years in Jail for 2 terms, and he's still all screwed up. He's gotta do it himself cause I can't fix him anymore. I stopped trying to fix him in the early 90's.

Saturday, I'll be playing some music with a bunch of folks from the FDP. If I was still "out there", that would not be happening, plus, I'd probably be dead by now.

"He's gotta do it himself cause I can't fix him anymore."

That's a fact. Actually, that's 2 facts. You can't fix him, and he won't until he wants to. But consequences have a tendency to encourage us.

Very True.

When my Brother was in one of the Many Rehabs, they had a 3 day outpatient program ( nothing to do with my user name and Band) for family members. My Mom wanted to go and I went to support her and my brother. It was a real eye opener. One of the things they taught us was:

The 3 C's.
