I kind of want one, but what I don't like (and this may seem trivial) is the ring around the humbucker. I think that looks bad. Any cure for that?

I have talked badly on them in the past, but I think I just played a couple of clunkers with all the praise they are getting here.

Thanks, Vickers. Put the pic in my profile and it's HUGE! Looks like the 50 foot woman in that old movie. I've created a monster!

Terry, that is sweet.

The only change I would do (not that you need to, make it so that it's yours alone) is to remove the white pickup cover from the neck pup, leaving a black open pup (like the center of the 'bucker).

I love that green moto guard surrounded by the black body. Very nice indeed.

Those things look like they're just beggin' for a bigsby trem. They're bottom loaders, right? Do they have that contour on the bottom like the strat? Or are they full thickness. I can't tell from the pictures.

I ordered a blond one, which arrived yesterday with a 4"-long crack on the bottom edge next to to control pots. I'm bummed, for obvious reasons, but also because it had the black guard that I wanted. I have to say that Zzounds was very quick to respond - I had an RA number within an hour of contacting them, and they are sending me another one today. Let's hope that one has a black guard too.
It's strange, because the outer box was sealed and in perfect condition upon arrival. The inner box, however, had been opened and was still open when I got to it, and had obviously been banged around quite a bit. That guitar never should have been shipped.
Edited to add that I still can't wait to finally get my hands on one of these. Even the damaged one seemed like it had a great neck. You guys got me hooked!

I like mine - first Squier product purchase - was too scared of poor quality hardware 'til now. Not saying the hardware is the best possible now, but I'm more accepting of mid-grade bits where appropriate. Just thought I'd let you know that Pickguardian is now making and shipping a replacement guard for the '51. I have a blonde(yellow) one with white pickguard that I actually think looks good. I'm apparently in the minority. I have replaced the pups - Lace Chrome Dome Strat at the neck; DeMarzio PAF with a nickel cover at the bridge, with a replacement chrome bezel. Gee, it looks nice. And this pickup set has a much broader tone range than stock, although there is a more pronounced volume variance btwn neck and bridge HB (which is why I bought a Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster - perfect solution and a really sensible piece of gear). I'll post a photo on Friday or Saturday. Then I'll post another when I attach the tortoise (!) guard I just ordered.

I love mine. I've got the sunburst/white scratch plate. I actually like the white plate contrary to some other less-than-pleased consumers.

The bridge is absolutely brilliant w/ a nice warm overdrive added to it. I keep mine tuned to open E for slide and some really full throttle rythm and power chording. Great, great, great guitar for the value.....I've sampled guitars ten times the price that this thing can stand up to EASILY......

Well just got mine. I must say that for $150, it's the best bang for the buck.I sat at the guitar shop and played it without plugging it in. WOW it just sang right out. As with all new guitars I had to spend time to set it up. From the factory it was in bad shape. No intonation, nuts on the tunners were loose, action way to high.....etc. After I set it up, I plugged it straight in to my amp. This thing ROCKS. Love the coil tapping, love the humbucker, but may swap out the single coil in the neck. After that I could not wait to plug into my nornal rig.On the left side of the room I use a tweed Fender Bluse DeVille 60 watt tube amp with 4X10 alnico's on top of a Marshall 4X12 bottom with Vintage 30's. On the right side of the room I use a Fender Hot Rod DeVille 60 watt tube amp with 2X12 vintage 30's on top of a Marshall 2X12 bottom with 2X12 vintage 30's. I run this through a Korg AX1500G. MAN O MAN. I could not believe my ears. It handled everything I threw at it. Great clean sound, an with some distortion I was blown away. This was the best $150 I have spent in a very long time. I must say that before I bought this baby, I came here to see what y'all were saying about this axe. I want to thank everyone who is posting here. I hope to be here quite often.

I have upgraded my Blonde 51 with a Seymour Duncan SSL-1 vintage staggered and it sounds great. I have been playing it incessantly through my newest amp purchase, an early 60's Regal all tube 3 watt tone monster. The combination is awsome.

Count me in. Just got my 51 today. I've been playing through my Vibro Champ all afternoon and I love it. This guitar has a real punk vibe to it--cheap and outside the mainstream. I love the strat neck pickup combined with a snotty humbucker. I have a couple different pickups on hand to try in the bridge, but I may just keep the thing stock.

Has anybody strung theirs up with 10s yet? Anybody replaced the nut? I'm thinking of doing both.

I'm in. Got a sunburst today from GC. Played through a Crate V-32. Nice amp, BTW.

Well I'm having a blast with mine, it sounds great this guitar! No way I'm replacing any pups. Although maybe a P-90 can be put in place of the humbucker? I'd love a tremolo bridge though. Maybe I'll get another in a different color and spend some dough on having someone install the bridge for me. Since these guitars are so cheap, experimenting with them is no big deal.

There's a couple of guitat stores here in the area each one has a 51. One is about 10 minutes from the house and has a nice sunburst, the only thing wrong with it I could find is the edges of the frets are a bit rough as you play up and down the neck. The other store has a very nice blonde 51 that I haven't had a chance to really play and I think I'm going over there to check it out. At the very least. I've really been wanting a 51 since I first played one back a year or so ago.

Yeah, I had rough fret edges on mine, but it's simple to fix with some fine sand paper. Getting such a fine guitar for this price, I don't mind doing small fixes like that. The intonation is also out of whack, but again, simple to fix yourself. I guess they gotta keep the costs down somehow.

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum. I have just modified my Blond Squier 51' with a custom made fender 51 decal also added a fender F style Neckplate and painted my single coil pup cover black on the white P-guard, this thing looks sweet. I may add Kluson tuners and vintage saddles too. I will post some pics tomorrow evening.

REPLACEMENT KNOBS:
What kind of knobs would work on the Squier '51? Can I get replacements of the stock knobs? Would Original Fender Tele knobs fit and work and be able to click to the different positions?

Thanks, the reason, I might buy another '51, strip it, spray nitro, and relic it.
