Just joined the club, couldn't resist when I saw one for sale on CL for $110 delivered. It's a sunburst. The neck pup sounded like mud - I removed the pickguard (am thinking of filling the screwholes and leaving naked) and popped in a Duncan stacked humbucker at the neck (with black cover) - sounds very good now, although when I coil split the neck pup, the single coil mode sounds as muddy or muddier than the original, so I'm thinking there may be something wrong with the neck pup wiring path. Still, 5 of the 6 options sound dang good so I'll probably leave as is for now. I'll do an intonation tonite, it's way off right now.

Wound up just disabling the split on the neck humbucker (Duncan stack, not sure exact model) after trying all possible wiring configs for it - no worries, guitar sounds absolutely fabulous. My favorite setting is the neck humbucker mixed with the tapped bridge pup, amazing clarity, cut, and spank without being overly bright, pretty much my dream tele tone. The neck pup sounds great for jazzier stuff, warm with great string definition.

I also picked up an SQ strat this week and have hardly touched it except for string change and quick set-up because I'm loving the 51.

"Not much of a guitar player, but I saw a "New" '51 Squier at the local music shop today. I was under the impression they were discontinued a few years back. Any further information?"

I ran across a NOS '51 in black while looking for an acoustic. If what I've read here is accurate, at $175.00 it's priced on the hight side.

Have a sunburst one that has been out of service for 3 + years now and collecting dust. It will be resurrected again at some point in the near future. Had much fun playing it and will gig w/ it again...

I duh ho

Do you smell that?

Dang! You guys have me wanting to get mine out of the case and start playing it again. My problem is that I had all the members of The Black Crowes autograph it and I'm afraid of rubbing the signatures off. Decisions, decisions.

I'm still wondering if this is some kind of April Fool's joke.

Well, I always thought the 51 looked like a more expensive guitar.

I bought a black Squier 51 the other day. The neck is off a Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster. Original owner did that. It came with a nice SKB hard case. Not sure why I bought one...I guess all the hype got to me...God knows I didn't need another guitar.

Since the last time I posted in May of 2009, I sold both my 51s. Tonight I bought one of the new ones in blond. I got it from Sweetwater. I wonder why GC and MF don't even advertise it yet? Aren't they going to get it?

Wow !! Looks like nobody has posted anything here for years. Just bought a Candy Red "51" to mod and was hoping to find suggestions and what to or not do on the build. Already bought new electronics. Swapping out the control plate for traditional Tele 2 knobs and switch. Got a set of locking tuners going on and a new nut but still undecided on the bridge. Considering adding a middle single coil like a Nashville Tele set up. Has anyone done this ? I've read there has been some problems with the bridges because the wood is soft. My plan is to drill out the bride mounting holes and put in some maple dowels and redrill the mounting holes.
Any ideas or info will be welcome.

All of the old '51 modder sites I used to visit are now defunct. Still have my sunburst '51 with tortoise shell pickguard, GFS 6 saddle bridge & Switchcraft jack, however. Mine has a great neck!

Found a nice gold 3 hole control plate at basspartsresource.com. It's a bit longer than the stock plate but the holes are spaced so you can use two full size pots and a LP style switch.

Fellow '51 'ers. Need a little help. I've been wanting a 27 in. tele bari for a while now, but haven't been able to find a Blacktop or other that I could afford.

I found a 27 inch neck from down under and decided to fit it to my blonde '51.

That all went fairly decent then I'm trying to set the intonation. According to Fender's info et al, the basic intonation begins with roughing in the scale on the first string.

In my case, it's going to be about 1/2" short...that's with the saddles pulled back until the adj. screws are bumping the string.

I really like the looks of the guitarfetish replacement bridge, but it's out of stock.

Any other ideas maybe replacing the saddles with offsets so the adjusters don't run into the strings? At any rate, looks like I'll have to move the bridge away from the nut about 1/2".
