Hi shednz, you might want to make sure that all the nuts for the inputs and outputs are tightened down. I believe that was the solution for the issue blawrence was having.

Welcome to the party, Polk Salad. Not a whole lot of activity on this thread as you can see. Hope you enjoy yours for years to come. Or if you grow tired of it, let the folks here know and I'm sure some of us wouldn't mind a spare '64. I know I'd be interested.

Greetings,
I saw one, played it and it sounded great! Local dealer had it but not for long.
How do they compare the originals...tone, build quality, reliability etc?
Thanks,
MG

I've never heard an original but from what I've read the ones from the 60's had underpowered transformers and artists like SRV would be blowing them up. Hence the limited production. I would hope to believe the new ones are more reliable compared to the older ones. I would think the build quality to be on par since each were a hand-wired manufacturing process. The tone of a new Vibroverb from the 60's would probably be very close to a new one from today (2000's). The biggest difference would be with the speaker. It seems to me that today's amp owners (me included on other amps) spend a lot of time and $ on swapping out speakers in search for the sound that they have in their heads. Whereas probably most players from the 60's just played the amps and concerned themselves with changing components when they needed to be changed.

Got it, thanks. I agree with most players back in the 60's just playing their amps...we were always more concerned with the girls at the gig to see if they were reacting to our band like the girls reacted when I saw the Stones in Washington DC back in '65...the girls at our gigs weren't quite as...enthusiastic. I remember telling my girlfriend at the time..."That guy Jagger...he's so skinny, that band won't even be around in 6 months"...LOL

There's a mint mostly new 68 Custom Vibrolux in the local guitar store here, not sure what the difference between the "verb and the 'lux' are but this amp has 2 10' Jensen spk's instead of the Celestions that are usually supplied with this amp from what I can tell. I'm going to check it out in a few days just to see what it can do.

^ Different circuitry, different speaker complement, ability to change operating parameters on the '64 Vibroverb Custom, build quality...totally, and tonally, different amps.

Aside from having to swap out a reverb tank, I have my new (to me),'64 Vibroverb Custom in the house.

Hmmm, is this thing still on? Back down to one Vibroverb Custom. Wondering if any other members are still kickin.
