Hello All.....I too am the proud owner of a American Deluxe 50th. I guess I was lucky. Mine has the "new" S-1 position 3 all pups on selection. This is my first Strat too. Congrats to the folks at Fender. They should be proud. Mine did not come with any diagram for the switching, so thanks for posting it here. I was wondering why the output was so full with the S-1 position 3 selection on. The tonal variation available from this guitar is extremely pleasing to the ear. This may be the first guitar I have owned that I will give a name to. StatPat, my diagram refers to you reference pickup combo as (A/SC) + B with S-1 down. If this is what you are talking about, I agree. It very closly imitates my Ibanez acoustic. Neat stuff.

If anyone is interested, there's a new 2004 HSS Deluxe on e-bay right now. Looks like you can save a few $$ with buy it now. It's black w/gold pickguard. I'd buy it but I have a Candy Tangerine on back order and I'm really set on the color.

smrybacki, thanks...I can't think of anything I else I need..............yet!
Stratpat,
Yeah, I love the finish on the 50th..At first I did look at it alot,...now it just sounds so good, the only time I notice the finish is when I'm wipe'in it down or looking at a pic of it...The Texas Special gets a little play time and the HWY 1 stays in the closet!

Longhair,
What gets more milage, your Mesa or Marshall? I also have a Nomad 45. I use a Digitech 2120 rack effects processor in the effects loop and it really opens that amp up. Just a little suttle stuff like EQ, reverb, delay, etc. in the effects loop makes a big difference. I have 11 guitars, Gibsons, Fender, Hamer, etc. I also ordered an "04 American Deluxe HSS in Candy Tangerine w/rosewood neck. Been waiting almost 3 months.

Axe11,
Lately the Marshall, cause it's newer and plus the 50th sounds so good thru it!The Fat strat so far sounds better thru the Nomad thou,...must be the Texas Specials....BTW the new Noisless pups in the 50th are extremlly quiet,I mean,I sit sometimes within a foot or so from the amp (with it cranked) and when I stop play'in I don't hear anything....except the "ring'in" in my ears!! LOL
Stratpat,
When are you gonna get some pics?...we're wait'in

Oh, I have to borrow a digital camera, still. My son is a black and white nut so his camera has the wrong kind of film, right now. Soon. In the mean while don't hesitate to post and repost with the pix. It's fun to see the widespread quality.

Another new owner here. Got mine about a week ago. I believe the color is the cherry sunburst but I guess it could be the sienna, don't know the difference.

By the way the neck stamp on my guitar says Feb 9,2004 and the body pocket stamp says Oct 16, 2003. Does that sound right or did I get a miss matched guitar?

I just bought my 50th Ann Am Dlx Strat in April and am totally in love with it. I like the sound of all 10 switch settings. My favorite is the middle with S1 switch on. I agree with the comments above on the great quality and set-up of this axe. I'm glad to see that someone else noticed that popping sound you get when you push the S1 switch. Is this a defect? It can be somewhat annoying when your amp is at higher volums. I'm sure the middle (#3) position with the S1 on mine is just the middle pup with the special capacitor on.
Later,
Brian

BrianM,
I hear a little "pop" on mine too, maybe it's that "special compacitor" kick'in in eh?

I get that "pop" too, and yes I believe it is the special capacitor discharging itself when first engaged. I am surprised Fender let this go frankly, but it is a minor quibble for me as I won't be gigging with this guitar personally.

This one is just for me :-)

I think I was wrong in my comments about the #3 position with S1 on. According to the Mr Gearhead diagram, only the middle pup is on. Well I did some pup tapping this morning with a little screw driver and guess what? ... all 3 pups were on. So where can I find a correct diagram that really shows what is happening?
I will gig with my guitar 'cause the others in the band are extatic about its tone and rich sound.
Later,
Brian

Hi BrianM,
longhair55 is correct. The link to the diagrams is in an earlier post from Gamera. At the bottom of the post is says "come and get it". That links you to the PDF files. Good Stuff. I get the pop also from the S-1 and I do believe it is from the capacitor. It could be annoying at volume, but I think the benefits outweight the pop. I have a small Crate amp and an old Sunn tube amp that I have had, well, a long time. Bought it new because I was fortunate enough to see Jimi Hendrix live and at that time he was using a wall of Sunn amps and I thought they were cool. Next time he had changed to Marshalls, but that is another story. Anyway, the point is that the sounds available from the Strat are certainly helped or hindered by your amp. It is pretty subjective, but I wonder what the ultimate Strat/Amp combo would be? I know SRV favored Fender Bassman amps at one point.
