FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Stratocasters / Am Dlx S-1 SSS Strat Wiring Diagram

Contributing Member

I traced the wiring of mine and put it in my profile.

It's a digital photo of a printed .pdf (I hate computers!). I have it as a .pdf also.

Thanks for this diagram.

Now, did you do the diagram layout yourself or did you get this diagram from another source?

Anyway, it's obvious from this drawing that adding S-1 switching complicates the Strat's wiring and switching circuits tenfold.

Thanks again.

Myself. Used AutoCADlt, Acrobat, and then had to take a digital pic of a printout (can't put .pdf's in my profile).

I enjoy understanding the fundamentals of components/circuits and deriving complex wiring schemes (an old EE that always has to be designing something).

The S-1 CAN effect complicated wiring, but that is a function of what one wants. In the Am Dlx Tele, it just puts the neck in series w/ the bridge (what's wrong w/ the 4-way lever, oh wait, this is NEW technology).

Looking at the Fender switching modes on their site for the S-1 SSS strat, I can actually effect that strategy w/ a 4P5T lever (one pole is for tone control selection, and one is left over) and a DPDT pp pot (don't need the "advanced technology" S-1). I'm currently working up how to do it the way that my Am Dlx ACTUALLY does it w/ a 4P5T lever and a DPDT pp pot. It's not difficult, just consumed yesterday doing my business' taxes.

This may be helpful too.

Paul L,

Yeah, I've seen this. Unfortunately, in the S-1 down and middle lever position, this drawing shows the middle and the special cap selected.

Mine does (N+B)*M. I checked thrice. Maybe Fender have changed things or who knows.

I figured how to spawn .jpeg's indirectly from AutoCADLT (print thru Distiller, Acrobat save as .jpg). I put a black and white version up on my profile.

Mr. yet...

My new 50th Deluxe also has the 3 pick-ups activated in the S-1 down-middle position. The drawing on the Fender web site must have been from an earlier prototype.

Also, if you have PhotoShop you can always convert a saved bitmap image to a jpeg file. I will sometimes just use the "copy screen" function and "paste" this to a bitmap reader, save as a bitmap file and use PhotoShop to convert and resize this bitmap file to a nice jpeg.

Take care.

I've tried a similar thing. I get too much granularity. Wish one could post .pdf's, eh?
