Folks, admit it. You love your solid state amp and you shant be ashamed! You're at home here.

Feel free to brag, gloat, bluster, and extol about your solid state amp in this thread.

Thanks to WallyArms, Co-Founder, for the thread title.

I'll christen this one.
Fender Stage 100 DSP. Rich, thick clean sounds for days. Great sustain, too. And with the right pedal it sounds better than a tube amp (duck).

VOX Pathfinder 15R. Great clean, crunchy distortion, good reverb, sweet tremolo. Perfect home/practice amp.

I was at the guitar show in Philly this weekend and heard what I thought was great tube amp - turns out it was a SS amp.

Not cheap, but they sounded incredible. I was totally fooled.

I have a Vox Pathfinder mini-stack with the 2 10 inch Celestions. I think it's a LOT of fun, and it's amazingly loud.

I also have a Princeton Chorus DSP. It's really versatile, and the stereo gives it a nice depth. the effects are very good, and do not add noise like a pedal does.

My main SS amp is a Fender Ultra Chorus, which I've had for about 2 months. At first I wasn't sure if it would fit the bill, but now I have seen the light.
Yea verily.
I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT.
The Ultra Chorus sounds rich, thick and clean. My story is simple :- Turn on, plug in and rock out!

SS amps are great, And tube amps are great also. They just do things a little differently. If I am playing a small room, SS amps are wonderful. You can make them sound similar to tube amps. Minus a few under tones.

Tube amps sound sweet. Definitely more soothing to the ear than SS. The the size of the room can dictate the size of the amp used rather than just a turn of the volume button.

I like them both. SS amps have their place. I like to jam on an SS amp and experiment with the different sounds that can be made.

JC 120... sounds great. But then again I play mainly jazz and some funk/blues, and just a little rockin stuff. I've heard even Metallica used this amp when recording And Justice for All. Great clean channel, and sounds good with pedals. As a matter of fact, I sold a Fender tube amp to get mine. I wouldn't think of trading it back.

> Definitely more soothing to the ear than SS.

Not in my experience. I'm happily smooth and soothing or jarring or whatever I want to be with a good SS amp and sufficient headroom.

At a 120 watt honestly rated power amp section in my Sunn, I have both in spades.

Good speakers make the difference in any amp, and with the gear I have, I can make it sound good in any room.

My 'clean' setup for the last year or more has been a Tele thru my Peavey Wiggy. Sure, it looks a little funny, but it has tons of serious tone lurking around in it. LOUD too. Most people I play it for can't believe it's not a tube amp.

However, I must admit when 'rocking out' I use them tube amps. I've yet to find a SS amp with good distortion.

SS for bass:

AMP BH-420, BH-260, SL-1 preamp, SansAmp Bass Driver DI, Peavey DPC-1000 and DPC-750.

I also have glass but it doesn't get the gigs or even rehearsals. They're more of an "archaic" technology interest to me.

I posted twice in the "SS amps and the guys that use them" thread about my Stage 100 DSP Head. Now we have another thread covering the same ground. Wonder if the two threads can be combined.

Fender tweed bronco and a blues cube 30. Think they are great! I can't believe how big the BC-30 sounds. It must be the 12" speaker.

Fender Automatic SE user here. It's just perfect for practising.

Does a SansAmp PSA-1 straight to the board count as SS amplification? :-)

Fender Ultimate Stereo Chorus. 2-12" speakers, 65W per channel. Sounds great at "bedroom" volumes! Also great clean! Picture in my profile.

I'll chime in here too, Vox Pathfinder and Polytone Mini Brute..love 'em. Hey..........since when does a guy from Brooklyn use the word "shant" ???? I grew up there, and would have gotten my ass kicked if I ever used that word!

Very happy with my Fender Deluxe 90. Plenty loud and light enough, and the tone is more consistent than the Peavey Classic 30 I traded for it.

I used to use a Tech 21 Trademark 10 and got great sounds out of it. Stupidly sold it in fit of GAS. I liked it so much I regretted selling it mere days afterwards. Liked it so much, I'm thinking of getting the Trademark 60. That was my only gripe with the TM 10, it couldn't cut it in jam situation without being mic'ed or run into the board. Sometimes that's just not possible, you know?

Absolutely nothing wrong with SS amps IMO!

Edited for spelling :(
