I have a violet one on my HDRlx. It is pretty cool in a dark room, but with top mounted controls, whats the point?

What's great about the blue one though is that if you look at it from the side, you get a weird pink color off of it. Looks awesome.

Do they really sell enough of those things to make them worthwhile...?

What % of F amp owners 'go non-red'?

I use the blue one on a 65 twin ri, because this particular amp was gutted and rebuilt using hand wired point to point wiring, just like the old ones. It's a modern classic! so I wanted to set it apart from regualr ri amps alittle.

ok, it's corny. But I really like it. All of my other Fender amps are red, though.

"Do they really sell enough of those things to make them worthwhile...?"

Apparently they do, It's a cheap form of self expression. I dunno, maybe it's a gang thing. I just like having something a bit different. I figure that a blue jewel is fitting for a blusey player like myself.

"What % of F amp owners 'go non-red'?"

In my household 100%. :)

I bought a box full--more than 50--of screw-in panel lights ("jewels") at a ham fest for less than $10. They were all old and they all were in great shape. Most are glass. No bacon for sale here...just ham radio and other electronica. The lenses are in all sorts of colors and some look pretty cool. The smooth round ones look the best to my eye. The faceted ones, as stock on many amps, appear sort of cheesy to me.

The green is very nice, more like turquoise, but the pick of the litter is purple. It is faint, and the facets split the color into blue and red from some viewing angles - all in all my favorite.

If the red is too bright for you, you can stuff something behind the lens to calm it down. Just a pinch of cloth, ScotchBrite, etc, or a little paint...

I thought the blue one looked too light of a color blue myself and have gone with the purple one on all my amps. Not a red jewel light cover on any amp here.

Glad you didn't make a rushed decision on this.
We appreciate the extended trial you have given it on our behalf :)

Any chnages to the tone yet ?

We are anxiously waiting to hear what you think when you report back next time, before we take the plunge.

My electric blue DRRI has a blue jewel which also strikes me as too pale and washed out. I would prefer a deeper blue. I tried red, amber, green, purple, clear, white and two other blues I had lying around and left the original blue in it.

I put a glass clear blue LED in my Carvin X-amp. It is so bright on a dark stage that I can hardly see the amp's nearby controls. It is also VERY blue.
