I purchased a Fender Jewel Light Cover in blue to replace the standard red jewel light cover that came with my Hot Rod Deluxe.
I know it sounds pretty stupid to review this item, but I wasn't especially happy with it. Not enough blue, frankly. The coating is a little thin, so instead of a cool deep blue, I get a pale light blue. I haven't decided whether or not to put the original red one back on.
Tone remains unaffected.

true, but the pale blue is actually a bit brighter onstage than the standard red. And it looks *good* on my 68 SF amps...;-)

Good points, Pepler, however I stand by my lukewarm assessment. If I buy a blue jewel light cover, I want BLUE. As in Jayhawks "Blue", not LeAnne Rhymes "Blue"....

I have a violet one on my HDRlx. It is pretty cool in a dark room, but with top mounted controls, whats the point?

What's great about the blue one though is that if you look at it from the side, you get a weird pink color off of it. Looks awesome.

Do they really sell enough of those things to make them worthwhile...?
What % of F amp owners 'go non-red'?

I use the blue one on a 65 twin ri, because this particular amp was gutted and rebuilt using hand wired point to point wiring, just like the old ones. It's a modern classic! so I wanted to set it apart from regualr ri amps alittle.
ok, it's corny. But I really like it. All of my other Fender amps are red, though.

Apparently they do, It's a cheap form of self expression. I dunno, maybe it's a gang thing. I just like having something a bit different. I figure that a blue jewel is fitting for a blusey player like myself.

In my household 100%. :)

I bought a box full--more than 50--of screw-in panel lights ("jewels") at a ham fest for less than $10. They were all old and they all were in great shape. Most are glass. No bacon for sale here...just ham radio and other electronica. The lenses are in all sorts of colors and some look pretty cool. The smooth round ones look the best to my eye. The faceted ones, as stock on many amps, appear sort of cheesy to me.
