This is a very cool little article about soloing. Randell Young sums up very elegantly and simply what took me 20 years to understand!!
I thought I'd like to share it with you.

I think I have read this before,.. anyway
he's pretty much right on the money..
when I was first learning to improvise, the teacher I had at the time (we're setting the way back machine to 1971, 72) said things very similar to what Randell's writing says.
it's the foundation I've worked on since I was a kid,,,
So, digesting this article, and having it ring all the bells it rings, yes!! on all points! I agree..

Love the line about not getting full of yourself and that with the groove the drummer and bass are laying down you could spit on your guitar and get an ovation.
I will definately be quoting that.
Excellent article.
Thanks marin.d

It’s a good synopsis of jamming concept. I’m almost there, but I’m now practicing laying down the riffs and scales overtop the rhythm of the current chorus and keeping it applied to my picking style. In other words playing rhythm and phrases with leads…. Hopefully I will soon break through and not think about any of it and just feel the basis of the song and go with it. I like to add alot of picking while maintaining the chorus and accents of chord chages.
