Okay, I think I know what might be going on now. I got the pic, I'm trying to post it to my website but it's given me a problem at the moment.

The guitar is Strat style with an Arrow/Swinger headstock. It says "Starcaster" and in smaller text underneath says "Fender". This is probably the reason that several months back Fender re-applied (or applied to renew) the patent for the name "Starcaster". I'll try to get the pic up and will post a link.

Yes Darrel, it seems they have renewed the Starcaster patent for the purpose of putting it on a starters kit. Shoot!

mjet260: "Costco is a discount/wholesale store like Makro in Europe. The chances of them selling a real Starcaster are smaller than you finding a suitcase of money in your shower." --- Nevertheless, I will check my shower tonight ...

undafonk,

Come to think of it, maybe I'll check my shower too. One can always hope!! ;-)

PROPHET,

Yours might not be a bad purchase, but the reason why everyone was jumpy about this is that the original "Starcaster" was a semi-acoustic Fender guitar in the 1970s which typically go for $1000+ and they're quite rare to boot. The thought that Costco had a pile of these was enough to cause everyone to do a double-take!

Ive since returned the guitar and removed the pic from my site.

I was told that it was worth less than a Squier and that i payed too much for it.

What a really bad use for that mythical name "Starcaster" to put in on a cheap "starter kit" guitar...! ;)
Oh well, it'll probably only make the price of real Starcasters go even higher...! ;)

PS: Undafonk, any chance of you coming to Denmark any time soon..?

Wow, a lot of new names since the last time I checked into the FDP. Nice to see that the Starcaster faction has grown though.

Here's a link to a pic of my '76 Starcaster:
http://www.defoe.us/john/Heather.htm

I saw a heap of those "new" Starcaster thingeys on Ebay. It is a shame they did that to the name.

Hello hegn! I am working with the Copenhagen Chamber of Commerce to get a seminar going in 2004, so I hope to see you somewhere in April or May...

Hi Dubh! I namechecked you in this thread some time ago (August) as one of the FDP-ers owning a Starcaster. Good to see you still got it. She is called Heather (check Dubh's website through his profile!).

Anyone with mucho dinero aspiring to own a Starcaster? On GBase (link below) there is one for sale now - I can't provide the direct link to the guitar, you just type in Fender Starcaster in the search boxes. It is offered by Rumble Seat Music in upstate NY (I have heard mixed reviews on them...). They want $ 2250 for a '76 one, they call it Sienna sunburst (quote: "a very rare color that is not seen very often"), say it's in a pristine condition, but don't offer a photo. Funny thing - it is not mentioned on their own website. Anyone care to bite?

Hey Guys,
Merry Christmas from the Coronado Club!
Although I don't own a Starcaster, I do admire them and hope to own one someday. I've finally found the one and only pic I have of a Starcaster with a bridge cover. Anybody else ever see one or have one?

I'm glad they faded out - or else I'd be pining for one.

Hi DarrelT, this is the first time I see a Starcaster with a bridge cover - I am puzzled ... None of the original ads and posters that Fender made for the Starcaster ever featured a bridge cover - at least to my knowledge. It would also be difficult to stick it on top of the original Starcaster bridge. Could it be an old Strat bridge cover that they just laid on top of the Starcaster bridge?

Rumble Seat has two more - one on hold and another one: "Fantastic example with a gorgeous Blonde finish with a nice subtle flame on the top and tons of flame on the back" and a "nice 'C'-shaped neck with spots of Birdseye and a great overall feel" - sounds just like mine! But it was still in its place when I left this morning ... Rumble wants $2,595, and there's a photo this time

I also have no idea about the cover. Did anyone here grab the Starcaster bridge that was recently on Ebay?

In another thread, Rusty Sterling says he has a line on a Starcaster that is owned by one of his colleagues.

I hope he checks in here to tell us more about it ...

wow, I don't know if I've ever wandered down this section of the FDP but I'm glad I did today... man, where was I when the Starcaster's were made?... (apparently while I was in the army given the number of '76's I'm seeing)... cool instruments...! $2000? guess that rules me out... great photos though!
